Where have I worked & how it helped me start Kapu & Cookie

Let’s start with 14 year old Cass. I got my first job at MCDONALDS. My best friends Mum worked there so I was able to start younger than usual. I remember getting a growling on my first day because I grabbed the fries wrong lol. The biggest thing I learned here was have a system for everything & “Clean As You Go” (IYKYK)

After high school I studied for four years for a Bachelor of Tourism Management & Diploma in Marketing. Do I use any of it? Not really 😂 But they helped me get a job in Melbourne

First job in Melbourne was a SALES CONSULTANT for a gym. I didn’t train anyone, my job was purely to get as many people as possible to join the gym. And this was my intro to “Cold Calling”. This job was pretty intense! They had a script for EVERYTHING. When someone joined, I should have built enough rapport to ask them for 10 friends numbers who I would call & repeat the process. So doing markets is easy compared to this haha

6 months later I got a job doing WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT for a tourism company. It was entering all the back end data, meta tags, SEO. As boring as it felt, this was helpful when I had to build our pakihi website! Even though this job ticked everything I had studied for, I was travelling 3 hours a day on 2 different trains every week day! I realised how important LOCATION of your mahi was for your time freedom

Then I fell hapu with our first son. I changed jobs to a RECEPTIONIST for a restaurant that was only 100metres from our home! They were a cool bunch of wāhine who let me be creative with their marketing material. I got to set up photo shoots, make posters, FB advertising, build their website (try to haha)

In between I also gave NETWORK MARKETING a go & it opened my eyes to the Personal Development world!! Podcasts, books, all the things you DON’T learn at school or uni

It's funny I'm writing a blog because I also gave BLOGGING a go & shared on my personal Insta page “Cass My Life Story”. Think I only wrote 3 blogs haha But I shared through the stories for a few years!

Then my last job was at an Anytime Fitness Gym where I learned to let go of “what other people think” by CLEANING the toilets & showers for extra cash

But my hardest job...becoming a MĀMĀ

I had to learn who I was, peel back the layers of my inner child, my whakapapa, my habits. Learn to give myself patience, be okay with making mistakes & dig deep even when no one is looking

During that chapter where I was a Stay-At-Home Māmā in Melbourne, I BAKEDThat was my way of making memories with our tamariki.

And that e te whānau, are all the different experiences and jobs that contributed to me starting Kapu & Cookie. Every single one of them, contributing to where we are today!
